I think it is the same old double standard that has been around for decades. Women who are sexually strong and independent are sluts while men of the same demeanor are studs. Your boss needs to be very careful about how she approaches matters of perceived sexuality in the workplace. That type of comment can certainly be considered discriminatory.

Your post covers a lot of territory! If you are asking if the existance of porn degrades women, I would say no. But a lot of the porn I've seen does seek to degrade women. Apparently a lot of men get off on seeing women degraded.

Your comments about your boss have nothing to do with porn as far as I can see. Your boss (or the owner of the company) have a lot invested and they can't allow it to be compromised by an employee expressing her "right" to dress in a way that provokes attention. As an employer I expect my employees to focus on the work they are doing and not do anything that would distract themselves or others. As for the clients - they too need to focus on business. I don't put a sign on the door that says, "Male clients without self-control and integrity go away. We have an employee who wears form fitting clothes and she expects clients to behave." When the profitability of my company is on the line and it comes down to the paying client or the employee's right to wear whatever she pleases, guess who gets the door.

I guess this question could be approached in a couple of different ways. Do I think porn is degrading to all women, in general? No, though I could see it having that effect with some nut job guys.

Do I think it is degrading to the porn actresses themselves? I think the answer is no, but I don't really think about it much. On the other hand, if say my daughter decided to go into the porn industry, I would not be too accepting of the idea.

I'm going to just address the topic of this post. You have 2 very good topics which should be done seperately to give them the discussions they deserve, IMHO.

Do I find porn degrading to women? No. Most women in porn go there by choice, whether because they want the money, fame, or to be in more control. The things they do in the movies are by choice. Porn covers aaaaalllll sorts of fetishes, preferences, ect. Some of which may seem demeaning to those that don't enjoy that particular sort of thing.

Now, I'm not saying they're aren't sleazy companies that misuse their employees/stars. I'm sure they exist. And abuse does happen in those situations.

It's not a secret that I enjoy watching porn. I've had a large selection of it over the years. Some was great, some, OK, and,well, frankly, sucked. I steer clear of the shadier companies, & the ones that In don't like. Do I always like what I see? No. But I don't find it degrading.

I agree that there is a double-standard: women who enjoy sex and/or have many partners, they're a slut & looked down upon. Men who do the same things are studs & looked up to.

Maybe, but it's not universal. My friend said her ex-husband didn't want to her to seem too interested in sex because it could be "slutty." I don't know how he felt about sex for men, but it sounds like he had a Victorian view of sex for women. He's been gone for years and she has learned to celebrate her inner slut. I think it is fantastic - no double standard for me.

Tyger is right we've got 2 different discussions going in one thread. First I'll address Kama's issue. IMHO Kama your lady boss has a screw loose. In the absence of a Dress Code I think she's overstepped her authority.

As to does porn degrade women in the industry? I'm sure there's some of that. I'm also sure there's more degradation towards employees out of the porn industry to both sexes.

Porn has kept me on an even keel with wind in my sails for the last 40+years. It ain't easy being a single man.

I agree, my last relationship was very much like that too. He knew I watched pornography and read Erotic books. And I opened up to him about it, in the end he told me I was slutty and shouldn't be into that sort of thing. Only I caught him watching porn as well, so it kinda makes me laugh. I don't think porn degrades woman at all. There's all different kinds of different porn, there's even porn made for woman as well. I won't deny I enjoying watch it as well, and sometimes it's hard finding a good one to watch. But everyone has their own perferences on what they want to see in a porno film.

I find porn degrading to women because it is geared to men. I would love to see women orgasm, I see in the amateur feeds women truly enjoying themselves. I rarely see this in commercial porn. I don't fault the women in the business, they make good money. There is a large market out there of women that would like to see women truly being satisfied. Why does almost every scene need to end with his pulling it out and then getting himself off in her face. It sets a poor example to girls and young women. What makes women hot? I mean those that watch. Make the watchers hot to trot and the men will buy the porn. Turn on the women and the men will follow. .

There's actually several producers of adult films that are geared for women, and are usually produced by women. Or, you could always go for lesbian porn as well. No dicks going off in those!! LOL

I think there are some producers of porn that degrad, but show me any place in life that women are always respected. I have known a few women who have performed in the porn industry. They did by choice and liked what they did. I've know a few others who have felt degraded. The result is I don't tend to generalize. The women who produce and direct often times can have more understanding for the performer. 

 

I was was giggling at the "I was raise Catholic so I don't know much about it." It is a great saying. Yet religion no matter which on, does not prevent any one from knowing or watching.

Do I think porn degrades women? Not necessarily.

I think that every career choice, literally every career choice, you are going to have some companies, bosses, or owners that degrade people.  Not just women, not just men, but people.  I am sure there are some porn companies that do degrade women, just as I know there are some retail stores that do that, but and here is the big secret most people don't want to talk about it happens to a lot of guys too.  Also to someone everything you do degrades someone else or themselves.  It is about perspective, yours and theirs.
