She may be upset at the time, but, given some time, she'll see it more as a kindness that it was done early on, instead of holding on just to be able to say that you're with someone. I'd also suggest you do it IN PERSON. Nothing says bad form than doing this over the phone, text, e-mail, and especially right after sex (yes, that happened to me).
