I was thinking about whether to go with a book or a dvd for my last masturbation romp, and I finally decided to go with a dvd. Unfortunately, it turned out to be rather poorly shot and generally laughable rather than hot. I have only one book with anecdotes of sexual encounters called The Art of Sexual Play, and I can't remember who it's by. I really enjoyed the ideas presented, and the experiences were so incredibly hot that I had to ask whether they were imaginary or actually real, lol.

Anyway, I just got my next book, Again and Again, in my last TT order a few days ago. I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but I think that I'm leaning towards books as being more stimulating. I find myself more able to get into the scene and let myself get worked up whereas I find myself critiquing the movie acting, actors/actresses, and generally quality of the movie rather than getting turned on.

What about you? And what's your favorite book or movie and why?

I enjoy written erotica more than visual erotica, but I like and use both. We have an extensive library of erotic literature and a modest library of erotic DVD's. I enjoy writing erotica, and while none of my stories have been published people have told me they're good enough for publication. I prefer to keep them private, as my stories are all based on real-life experiences, and I don't care to share that with just anyone.

I have found some other people's written erotica amazing. Jane Urquhart's erotica is wonderfully fun and happy and very, very sexy. There are some others on the internet, but mostly I like my old, tried-and-true smut books. I have to keep taping the pages back in on some of them, LOL!

We use both books and DVD's, together and separately. I find books are better as foreplay and for solo enhancement, but when I've got 9 inches of my husband's hard cock pounding into me, it's hard to hold (let alone focus on) a book. That's when erotic DVD's are priceless. Listening to the sounds... hard breathing, the slapping of a man's hips on a woman's ass, the moans of a woman cumming... makes my own orgasms sooooo much more intense.

It's not an everyday thing, but when we use either books or DVD's, it's definitely HOT.

Movies done well can be very stimulating. I haven't seen it but I here the "Pirates" movie is excellent.

Yes, Pirates is VERY good!! Island Fever 4 is even better though, IMO. Though Pirates has a plot, and I.F.4 is more of a fantasy sort of porn.

I put EQUAL. I love love love to read, and have a vivid imagination, so it's almost like seeing a porn in my head, when I read a sexual scene!

I have to admit I love reading erotic scenes. My mind can conjure up a sensual picture from the written words so much better than any movie can make, but watching is hot too....it usually differs in that what you see on screen is usually not so much sensual and erotic, as it is urgent, hot, and "dirrrty". Both kinds are great and have their place! Have to say that it's mostly scenes I imagine or even actual fantasy conversation that can get me going the best though.

I love to read, I read anywhere from 1-3 books a week. Some erotic, most not. I put equal also.

*I still can't figure out the quote thing????????

Elise, you bring up a good point. If I was with hubby, I'd definitely spring for the DVDs. Although, he has a bit of a moral issue with porn, so we really don't have much. It would have to be an educational DVD, which I just got one. We'll see how that goes over, lol. Not that he doesn't enjoy and get aroused by them, he just feels badly that he has watched them because they promote sex before or completely without marriage.

Anyway, I guess my preference changes with my mood. If I want some discreet, long period of time stimulation, I'd pick up the book. If I want quick, hardcore results, I'd go for the DVDs.

I can identify with your husband's reluctance to watch porn. I was raised under strict religious rules, and struggled with that myself for a long time. I had an internal conflict due to the fact that I was really turned on by porn, but believed it was immoral, and that conflict raised a lot of guilt in my heart. I'm not sure that I've resolved the conflict, but I've come to terms with it and now can enjoy watching it with my man before, during, and after we have sex. It can be a great enhancement to our sex parties. I don't use porn at all on my own, but I do use erotic literature when I masturbate.

Some of the "how-to" DVD's are very hot, BTW, so if that's a way you and your husband can get around his moral issue, and you can get the hot visual stimulation you want, more power to you.

BTW, the "how-to" videos can be a real inspiration to try new things. I have a girlfriend who thought I was crazy for years because I was so into anal sex. But after she watched Tristan Taormino's "Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women" video, then "Crystal Dreams" with her husband, and saw Tristan and Chloe having clearly non-faked anal orgasms, she decided to try anal herself. She is now even more of an anal addict than I am! Seeing real people enjoy things that are outside our current comfort zones is a great way to extend the limits of our sexual experiences.

I have a great imagination when it comes to books, I love reading. But when it comes to sexual stimulation I'm a visual person. It's porn for me!

Lol, I just finished "Again and Again" by Susan Johnson, which was good, but it didn't excite me as much as I'd thought it would. It did get me in the mood, I guess, but not as much as my "educational" book. Maybe because it wasn't as detailed in describing the scenes and acts. I too am fairly visual and I like those hardcore closeup shots, so that sort of translates into books where I need that graphic description of what their doing and how it feels, y'know? I'd like to find a book that really gets detailed like the "Art of Sexual Play" was, but more of a novel form rather than educational.

I'm a film major and a romance novel junkie. I find with porn I just start critiquing the lighting, the camera movements, the editing (my field) and pretty much everything my classes have thought me to look for. Needless to say with thoughts in my head like, "They really should of cut about 5 sec off the shot," or "Hey that the exact same thing but from a different angle," I can fall out of the mood.

As for my romance novel habit, there are some times when I have to take a break and fan my self. I think with books there's more left to the imagination, so you can insert any guy you want into the picture.

Movies are okay, needs to be a bit of tenderness. Lit is usually better, but mostly when I do it, my mind is at a blank. Or I'm thinking about my current love interest, a real person that I find attractive.

For some reason, lately, I've discovered the joy of Labyrinth (as in the David Bowie movie) fan-fiction. Smutty fanfic, o' course. Apparently I have a thing for tights and singing goblins!

I definitely prefer movies, DVD's-- PORN !!

I'm very visual (for being a female ---see it's not just a male thing)

Sometimes just listening to the SOUNDS that are being made

will totally send me over the edge.

I do love "Erotic Fiction" also, however it really depends on who is writing it.......

Some authors are MUCH better than others.......

Probably not the typical male response, but I prefer erotic stories. I have a very vivid imagination and have no problem visualizing the story how I want it, not the director.

See my related question on erotic stories that I will post.

For me it is reading - books, short stories, whatever. I guess it is because creating a picture in my mind of what I am reading gets me more involved than watching TV. I am also pretty good at imagining without the aid of books. ;)

I guess it all depends on my moods at the time. A lot of the time, it's just what I fantasize about so that'd be my mind. However, adult mags do stuff, and so do DVDs too.

Like a lot of the others who've already replied, I prefer books over movies if I'm looking for something to get me going. My imagination tends to turn me on quite a bit more than most of the movies I have seen. This wasn't an option but sometimes I'll also draw to get myself in the mood. It's never a truly sexual scene, usually just a couple being lovey-dovey/cuddling but for me it works great. :P

Interesting... You should post some of your intimate drawings... I like art which depict sexual intimate situations, even moreso if teasingly with an artistic flare... ^_^

Well like I said they're not really sexual, just cuddly. I might post some later though...
