Newbie ambrabaatz Posted May 3, 2007 Newbie Report Share Posted May 3, 2007 Hello,This is a little embarrassing but...recently during sex my husband somehow managed to get my nipple up to my mouth. (don't ask how..im not sure)..NEwayz I noticed that it tasted a little like metal. Not really strong, but it was there. I asked him about it during pillow talk afterward and he said that sometimes it did and sometimes it didn't. He never said anything because it didn't really bother him. He thinks that I have high levels of iron in my body, but actually it is just the opposite. My iron is always very low. Every time i try to give blood i can't do it because of that reason. So we started looking on-line and there is nothing about it. If anyone knows what could be causing it, or if you have experienced the something similar please let me know. Tyger
I would recommend seeing a doctor about your anemia, which is a lack of iron in the blood, causing you to feel sluggish, and tired. There are iron pills out there that you can take as well as multivitamins that should be a part of everyone's morning ritual anyway. Increasing one's intake of green veggies will help, aHowever, I wouldn't go freaking out over possible huge health hazards. You should get your blood tested, that's that. The taste y'all probably taste may be just the oils in your skin. At different times, seasons, and even fluxuations in hormones, can cause different things to be released into the body's skin oils, and other fluids. It could be that simple, or just your sweat. Either way, don't panic, I'm sure it's nothing overly serious, however, we are not medical professionals here, so if it truly bothers you, a physical with blood work should be done soon. Members Mikayla1
I am not thinking that the taste is "metal" but instead more of a salty taste. Your diet can dictate what any part of your body tastes like - do you eat a lot of fish? Fish can make for a metallic tasting sweat. As far as the anemia goes, get it checked as suggested. Also, I do not think that having excess iron in your blood would make it taste that way. I have been on iron supplements most of my life (now double that I am pregnant) and have NEVER tasted iron on my nipples or skin!
Members CGEM
OK. Being a pharmacist currently attending an international leukaemia congress, I would be VERY CAREFUL about scaring people about developing leukaemia simply based on low haemoglobin and metallic taste on one's nipples.I have never heard of clinical complications including a metallic taste of the skin. Furthermore, I did a medical literature search, and unless you and your husband have one or more of the following, you should be safe: dialysis, kidney transplant, Botox treatment, radiation therapy for head and neck cancer, chronic arsenic poisoning. In other words, the metallic taste is probably an insignificant and harmless feature of your unique physiology. Another reason could be minerals in your nutrition or skin creams. For instance, most sun block creams contain metal oxides. As for your iron levels, consult your doctor and don't worry. We are all unique in this aspect, too (iron absorption and metabolism). You will surely be told if there is any reason for action. But if you feel OK, it shouldn't be a problem.
