Do you have any favorite poems phrases, or just words, which may depict your thoughts sometimes...

I dont believe I am poetic in any form or fashion, but I do read...Sometimes I read something, and I am stricken by the words...

Sometimes the words mimic my own feelings or thoughts...

Have yor ever come across such words...

So, I submit this thread...I will share some words which I have stumbled across, which has cause me to pause and ponder...

Some are inspiring, others may just be sexy in content...

Please, submit and share your own...

Sometimes, I am terrified of my Heart...

For its constant Hunger for whatever it is It wants...

The way It stops and starts...

Still I Rise

You may write me down in history

With your bitter, twisted lies,

You may trod me in the very dirt

But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?

Why are you beset with gloom?

'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells

Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,

With the certainty of tides,

Just like hopes springing high,

Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?

Bowed head and lowered eyes?

Shoulders falling down like teardrops.

Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?

Don't you take it awful hard

'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines

Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,

You may cut me with your eyes,

You may kill me with your hatefulness,

But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?

Does it come as a surprise

That I dance like I've got diamonds

At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame

I rise

Up from a past that's rooted in pain

I rise

I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,

Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear

I rise

Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear

I rise

Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,

I am the dream and the hope of the slave.

I rise

I rise

I rise.

Last poem but this one is one I t

Phenomenal Woman

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.

I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size

But when I start to tell them,

They think I'm telling lies.

I say,

It's in the reach of my arms

The span of my hips,

The stride of my step,

The curl of my lips.

I'm a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That's me.

I walk into a room

Just as cool as you please,

And to a man,

The fellows stand or

Fall down on their knees.

Then they swarm around me,

A hive of honey bees.

I say,

It's the fire in my eyes,

And the flash of my teeth,

The swing in my waist,

And the joy in my feet.

I'm a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That's me.

Men themselves have wondered

What they see in me.

They try so much

But they can't touch

My inner mystery.

When I try to show them

They say they still can't see.

I say,

It's in the arch of my back,

The sun of my smile,

The ride of my breasts,

The grace of my style.

I'm a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That's me.

Now you understand

Just why my head's not bowed.

I don't shout or jump about

Or have to talk real loud.

When you see me passing

It ought to make you proud.

I say,

It's in the click of my heels,

The bend of my hair,

the palm of my hand,

The need of my care,

'Cause I'm a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That's me.

Never allow a person to tell you no who doesn't have the power to say yes.

Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.

Helen Keller

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

Do not be too moral. You may cheat yourself out of much life. So aim above morality. Be not simply good; be good for something.

What an awesome thread Ready !! There is only one that comes to mind for me.

I first heard it years ago while watching the 1961 movie "Splendor In The Grass".

I think I was 16 or so when I first saw it.

The movie had a huge impact on me.I loved it so much that I even purchased the DVD not long ago.

It featured Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty. The were in high school and very much in love.

Their parents did not approve of them dating as they came from opposite types of families.

It showed the pressures of sex, temptations and desires that we all go through during those difficult teenage years.

This movie was even a bit racy. The topic of teenage sex in the movies was very controversial in the year 1961.

The lines of the poem below were discussed in great detail during an English class in the movie.

While this is not the poem in it's entirety, these particular lines have always had great significance to me-

as they remind me of different periods of my life.:

.

Though nothing can bring back the hour

Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;

We will grieve not, rather find

Strength in what remains behind;

William Wordsworth

I use these words at work all the time when people start taking their work a little too seriously.

Remember, keep breathing...if you stop, its all down hill from there.

No, seriously...breathe.

You need to let me know if I have them right or not.. I don't recognize the words here, but the style is very familiar. this is an educated guess.
