I know a couple of women who seem to have this same mind set but both of them are quite a bit older than your wife. It seems like that is just the way they were brought up and they stubbornly refuse to even give another point of view a try. They have been married for many, many years, but neither partner is particularly happy in both relationships and they don't care who knows it, they are just plodding along to the end with a barely disguised anger always simmering under the surface.
