Thanks ladies! I had also been thinking about writing someone on self-esteem but she beat me and WAY out did me, so I figured I could back here up with this. I looks like (so far) we all pretty much agree on our ups and downs, now if only we knew how to make teh downs go away. I'll be honest I hate my legs, like I said I was 12 when I was first call thunder thighs, so I RARELY wear swimsuits, never do short shorts, and I avoid sexualpositions with my legs up higher than his waist.

I have pretty good self-esteem and overall I love the skin I'm in, but I do drink sodas almost constantly, so my teeth could definietly be brighter. It's not that big of a deal, though.

acne acne acne

its gotten so bad i have really bad scars from it. plus it hurts to smile or talk sometimes. im thinking of switching birth controls (the one i'm on is notorious for CAUSING skin problems in girls that previously did not have issues)

Me it was so much easier to see the negatives then the positives.

Suzy..i'm with you on that. I think I have too much inner thigh fat...and streatch marks for have a kid....so i hate wearing a swim suit or the shorty shorts that are in season. Takes forever to shop for shorts that cover what I don't like.

Em. there is bc out there that is made to help acne also. So just mention it to your doc. when you go in that you want something to help your acne. (even if it wasn't a problem before this might make it go away faster and prevent you from getting it again) Just a thought.

I have my family's hips and thighs, we're all big legged in this house! Oy, sometimes I wish my mother's genes weren't so damn dominate!

I noticed in the results and discussion that many ladies are concerned about weight issues. I am only a college guy and I have always been an athlete so I do not have a lot of experience personally losing weight, but I worked as a trainer at a good gym near my home last summer. The people I worked with were mainly ladies who were overweight and I have to say their commitment, determination, and humour were very inspiring to me. I think in the three months I was there they each lost about 15-20 pounds. We had a lot of camaraderie and good times along the way too.

I think a very important point is that it involves a lifestyle change - a change in the way you eat (what you eat and how much you eat), what you drink, and what you do. It is not about going to the gym but changing your life and your view of life. Judging by what I witnessed with the lovely ladies I was with, it is almost spiritual. As I said, being with them was inspiring - far more inspiring than the ultra fit men and women who were also around.

So, I suppose what I am saying is that all of you ladies here are so wonderful in so many ways, this is something that is VERY achievable and it can transform your life completely. It will make you feel better about just about everything in your life. It is never, ever too late to get on the right road!

Anyway, I just wanted to add these thoughts.

Best wishes to all of you,

Queensman

Thank ou for your inspring words! I knwo for me it is just a lack of motivation and oppertunity. I LOVED my gym and I was losing a lot of weight but it was so expensive and I had to quit. Hopefuly though Things will go better for me this time around!

Thank you, Vanilla Bean, that was very kind of you to say!

I know what you mean, SuzyP, the gym is a bit too expensive for me too. If it wasn't for my university gym at the moment I would be out of luck. I think the motivation you mentioned is a big factor - it is not easy changing our routines and finding time. Maybe I would just start out small and change your diet and the portions you have? Maybe cut out some really bad things like soda and bad snacks as a start as well. Then once you build momentum you can move on to a walking regimen and some light aerobics. That progression seemed to work well for all the ladies I was with.

Anyway, SuzyP, just a thought. Good luck with all that you are doing!

I read that you are involved in the theatre? I just tried out for a role in Tom Stoppard's "Arcadia" (probably will not get it though) and just finished reading Yasmina Reza's "Art" - have you read that SuzyP? If not, you really should, I think you would like it a lot - really witty and insightful.

Best wishes,

Queensman

Hey IHA, you're the expert in this field....what is the main cause of this lack of self-esteem and body image problem that plagues almost all women at one point or another? What's weird is that I've seen more women who are very attractive with nice bodies and personalities who have this problem and then I've seen even more who are.....how can I say this diplomatically?....uumm, really fat or unfortunate looking but they do not see themselves that way....in their mind they are hot and attractive and their partners seem to find them so too. I think basically it's all about how you project yourself.....if you feel bad about yourself you will subconciously project that out and others will pick up on it whether it's legitimate or not. So ladies get over it....you don't have to be perfect....but if you feel like you could honestly make some changes that would make you feel better then get off your ass and just get started doing it. You don't have to go berserk and all extreme....just move a little and get the endorphines pumping and whether your large or small that alone will make you feel better about yourself where you can let go of that crippling self-critisism. That "one of these days I'm going to..." mentality has to go...just making a few little positive changes every day and learning not to be so hard on yourself will open you up in ways you can't imagine! It's not about looks it's about how you feel! :)

Well said Chloe! I have days when I feel like I look AMAZING and then I have days when I feel less than amazing and i look in the mirror and I have more flaws that anyone should. Your very much right it is a mental thing. Those days I feel amazing? I haven't lost two pounds or changed my hair or anything like that I'm just feeling good about being me! Other days, not so much. But I think that you also ahve to take into consideration the Standard of beauty we have, a plus sized model is a model sized ten and up. Ridiculous right? Anytime a full figured women makes it in hollywood she's suddenly doing it for all the "fat girls" of the world, and in three months she's super skinny like teh rest of them. Even if we had more sized 10 and 12 (not big sizes at all) women in the public eye we would I think feel better about ourselves!

Ok, I'm not a guy but most of the ones I know (who don't have image problems themselves) really do not pay attention to the size issue. It's how you work it. Personally I think a woman looks better with some meat and curves on her especially as she gets older....I would have to wonder about a guy who was seriously attracted to that waifish 10 year old boy look and as you get older those really skinny women just look frail and dried out. A woman with a little substance to her just looks more "juicy" and fresh longer. Plus let's face it...that's how women are supposed to be made....the artwork and statues that go way back into antiquity prove that it was a "ripe" woman with curves that was the ideal. Forget the crap these magazines are trying to shove down our throats....it's not real! Real women do not have 5 hours a day to spare having a personal trainer whip them into shape and I don't know about you but I damn sure don't intend to live on lettuce leaves and lemon water. Now that doesn't mean you can eat a side of beef and slug around all day letting yourself go to pot but we all need to accept that most women aren't naturally designed to look like pencils. But whether you do or don't you need to accept yourself and just be the best you, you can be! Do whatever it takes to make you feel good about yourself. You know you have alot to offer....let that show and everyone else will see it too! :)

I am interested in seeing the ending results of this poll. Although I personal can say that it was hard for me to choose the worst part of my body, since I love everything about it, except for the scars I have.

Great Poll!!

Probably won't work on her either! LOL! There is more truth than some of you ladies realize in that self-image theory!
