ok some of you know that my hubby has always had issues with premature ejaculation and maintaining an erection. he has read pretty much everything about it, and tried everything.

he FINALLY got sick of it and went to the doc. he sent him for blood work and to a urologist. hubby went to the urologist today, and hubby was really ticked off. the doc didn't ask any questions about his ability to maintain or anything..pretty much sat him down ask him if he had any injuries, or an std, hubby said no, and he wrote him a scrip for paxil. my hubby was trying to ask him questions about paxil..the doc basically said one of the side effects is the ability to last longer. hubby tried to explain to the doc that , thats all fine and good, but what about his inability to not maintain his erections. doc brushed him off said not to worry about it and handed him the scrip.

we looked up paxil, and read around..and yeah you can last longer, but you also lose your sex drive, and your ability to orgasim.

i am calling our regular doc tomorrow.

hubby doesent want to take a pill every day for the rest of his life. he just wants to have something handy incase he needs it.

has anyone had any experiences with this??

DO NOT BOTHER FILLING THAT SCRIP!!!!! I took that shit (PTSD) and had more problems than solutions. It left me with a twitch in my legs/feet that lasted to thi day and it has had 3yrs+ to run it's course. If I sleep in bed with mamalou she has literally dove on my feet while I was dead asleep to stop that shit!

You may need to say something about that doc to the new one. Sounds like he's just dispensing pills for a few minutes conversation!

OK, I have taken Paxil a few times, as well as many other anti-depressants. They almost ALWAYS lead to loss of libido! Trust me! <_<

It really sucks he was treated this wasy by a doc. Sorry for this! But reamember, this doc is not the "be all end all" of doctors - it IS hard to find a good one!! Again, TRUST me!! ;)

You did the right thing by making another appt. with another doc! Good for you two!

Get the second opinion. I would only fill the script if he is actually depressed - not for a long-shot side-affect - I have never heard of this... Sounds to me like he saw a quack!

Good luck with this, and make sure he sees someone else. ;)

Most of the antidepressants decrease libido...so who cares if you can last longer when you don't want to have sex at all? The doc probably heard a couple of 'cue' words hubby was saying...and ignoring all the rest.

Definitely get a second opinion...and ask to be referred to a specialist in ED. There are urologist who make ED their specialty and are much more likely to listen than to jump to conclusions, like the other doc appears to have done.

Paxil is not like taking Tylenol. Pappy is right. There can be long lasting side effects. The benefits should outweigh the risks and that does not appear likely here!!

Having been on anti-depressants for most of my adult life, I can personally attest to the fact that 1) they do decrease libido; 2) they do have long lasting side effects and 3) they are over prescribed. However, I would not call them worthless for those of us that have chronic conditions that need them. I've just gone through a major increase in my current drug - which I found out today was what was causing my inability to have an orgasm. So, I've stopped that (did on my own 2 weeks ago) and we will be looking at another combination if not changing it all together (oh joy, I can't tell you how happy that makes me!)

My point is I agree that Paxil is not the answer I'd go with for his ED problems - I'd try anything first before drugs - but if he has to resort to drugs - know that the first recommendation may not work and you'll need to keep trying.....

Sometimes, better living through chemistry is necessary...hopefully not in this case!

DO NOT FILL THAT PRESCRIPTION! That doc, didn't listen to find out what was going on. If you want to PM me for a local recommendation, feel free. It appears we may live close to each other

What an idiot doctor... I agree it sounds like he's just a pill pusher... it doesn't sound like he actually wants to HELP or EDUCATE or ANSWER questions his patients -- who go to him for comfort and aid -- have for him. Toss that prescription and get another physician. Good luck.

Wellbutrin can have the same libido loosing issues for SOME people - so watch that. If your hubby is not depressed, then he doesn't need an anti-depressant. I think that book that Iha suggested is a great way to start. There are many techniques that can naturally help him to maintain or get an erection (but it takes serious commitment from both of you) Also, there are drugs that can help with occassional ED - Cialis, Viagra and Levitra. I would suggest trying Levitra first as it works over 36 hours (you can take it on Friday, and be good for 36 hours after) Many doctors (good doctors) will give you sample packs of these as they are expensive.

read the book, try the natural exercises, have more foreplay and find a better doc - those are my suggestions! Oh, and I wrote and article on ED - read it, there are links to many resources for people with ED issues!

You need a new doctor. It is obvious he wasn't even listening to your hubby.

I also took Paxil for PTSD and another one of the not so great side effects is weight gain.

I'd go with the good suggestions others have given you.

Stay away from the drugs unless he truely needs them.

thank you all for your input on this situation. he has an appt with our regular doctor on the 9th. i personally spoke with out doc. she was livid when i explained what happened at the other doctor. she said she would handle it. i have had a few bad experiences with a doctor, and my reg. doctor got on the horn and pretty much ripped him a new one for treating me the way he did. then she personally picked up the phone and called another doctor, and made me an appt. herself. i can only imagine what she said to him lol

Your doctor sounds like a good person, as well as being a good doctor. Let us know how things are going.

I'm glad you made that phone call, and I bet hubby will be, too.

i have been with my doctor for almost 7 years, and will never change. for year when i dident have insurance, she only charged me $30 for an office visit., and then gave me samples for everything..including allegra d, singular, antibiotics. she always asks about my job, and family..we have an appt next saturday.

That is great news!

I know what it means to have a great doc. Mine wrote off a $963 bill that was charged to me for an IUD when she realized I no longer had the insurance that I previously had when I was pregnant.

It's so good to have a good one - hope your hubby will get some REAL help and advice now. Let us know! ;)

However Wellbutrin can also have the opposite effect, it can make you WANT more sex!

That has been some of the problem here, I take it and am a little bit of a control freak so I want sex LOTS of hard nasty fun SEX.

ok..doc gave hubby cialis...said to double check with our fertility doc. because she has read of a case or 2 where it caused fertility issues. so she just wants us to check with them, because she doesnt want to cause any more issues with that then were having.

she also called the urologist and gave him a piece of her mind. which i am not surprised she did..shes got that irish temper!!

I like your doctor! I told my doctor I was diagnosed with HPV but told i should still get the vaccine, and my doctor told me it was a waste of time that I already had it. FYI that's not what teh pamphlet says. Ugh, uo to that point i liked her too...

the first thing my reg. doctor did when the vaccine came out was want to give it to me...but i missed the age cut off by 18mths :(

ed meds, yes some meds do play up with your erections, i have 3 medicals problems (1) narcolespy(sleep apnea) (3) cataplexy . with out medication which i take daily i would sleep easy 18 hours a day . with these medical problems getting erections can be a problem , havent had a morning hardon for about 10 years .often when i do it goes down twice a quick. have tried many erection medications , the best one is cialis helped great , but the downfall is i cant take my other medication . i have to get in quick before i go to sleep. by the way the most i sleep is 46.5 hours without waking up. iam very glad my wife is understanding and a low sex drive. been married 16 wonderful years and 5 children . so try to relax and dont worry about your erections because its makes it worse , cheers wombat

Hi Angel hope you and your hubby have fun with the Cialis. My doc put me on levitra first and it was terrible. Bad side effects, headaches, bloodshot eyes, and only lasted four hours, not nearly enough. She put me on Cialis and gives me a ton of samples everytime I go in for a physical now. This stuff is great hardly no side effects, an occassional mild headache, but not bad enough to call off sex for, and it last, for me any way up to almost two days. Oh and Di says when I'm on it she can tell because my hard-ons are bigger then ever. Thats a good side effect.

Wishing you two a good weekend

James & DI ;)
