Great article, and I completely agree with Mikayla when she said, "I believe the fact that older people are more open and willing to discuss, ask for and participate in sex that they find fullfilling is the reason why sex gets better and better with age!" Things keep getting better and better for me and my husband of almost 32 years. Another thing they don't mention is without the responsibility of young children, we have more time and less concerns about finding time. Also, with husband not working (he's disabled from the Army) and me a full time student but only going to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, it leaves more time to be close, both sexually and non-sexually. It's the best time of my life right now, and I hope things work out where I can just go back to work part time once I graduate. I know the long hours and high stress of my last job took its toll on our sex life and our happiness.

Thanks! I was so surprised to see these birthday wishes--pleasantly surprised. I haven't been around much--Ive been stopping by, just not as active as I used to be. We've been cleaning our house, sorting, re-arranging, new shelving, getting ready for a yard sale 15 years in the making (we moved in 15 years ago Wednesday), etc. We are almost done with every room, closet, cabinet, shelf, nook and cranny in the house, and my husband (who is doing so much better than he has been in years due to a change in medication) is almost done with the storage sheds in the back yard. We will have our yard sale the third weekend in August, and then college starts back the following week. And I have gotten back into cooking. I used to love to cook, but when I was a working mom, and then got a high stress job with long hours, cooking was just another chore. Now I am getting back into it, fix at least one meal each week with new recipes, have typed all my recipes up, joined a couple cooking/recipe groups and started one of my own. Hope to be back more now. Oh, it was also my husband's birthday--we were born the same day, just two years apart!

Don't believe everything you hear! I went through a slump a few years back, but realize now it was job related stress and the 60 hour weeks I was putting in. Once that stress was out of my life my sex drive came back stronger than it has ever been in my entire life, even when I was 20. And sex seems better to me now than it was when I was younger. My husband and I know each other more, know what we like, and aren't afraid to try new things. It is much more satisfying than ever before!

Back to the original question, I think it is good for a couple to do things separately once in a while. I often go to dinner and/or movies with my girl friends, and if it wasn't for my cigarette allergy would probably go out to some bars, too. I would love to learn to line dance. But with that being said, I also love to spend time with my husband. But a healthy relationship needs some alone time. I used to say that one of the things that kept our marriage alive was the frequent separations due to the military assignments. then later we were occasionally apart due to my work. But now with him retired and me a full time student we don't have any trips apart. But that is working out well, too!

Well, if we are talking stores that sell dildoes, vibrators, inflatable dolls, etc. as sex shops, then they are not illegal in Oklahoma. There is a chain called "Christie's Toy Box" that has 13 locations in Oklahoma, and 1 in Texas (which the article I just read about outlawing sex shops in Alabama said they were illegal there). They have a website, too, but this one is still the best! If that is not the type of sex shop we are talking about, then someone please enlighten me! I have been to Christie's, but prefer shopping TooTimid, mainly because of the reviews and descriptions. Thanks, and Happy Mother's Day to all of the women who share being a mom. I really celebrated yesterday, my youngest had to fly out this morning on business, and the other two had to work today, so we all got together yesterday. Mike grilled rib eye steaks that melted in your mouth, Laura baked a pie and fixed potatoes, and she and Billy fixed salad (Michael, Jr. had to work until about the time we ate). Nice gifts, but nothing elaborate, but I'm not big on gifts anyway. Laura and I had gone for pedicures last weekend as an early Mother's Day present to me, and that was the best! There are a number of great OTC aids out there. Phytoestrogen (plant estrogen) helped the menopause symptoms immensely, but has soy in it, so I quit taking it when I learned that soy products counter act with thyroid medication. I was having a really difficult time with heavy, long bleeding and my doctor had run all sorts of tests and exams to show that there wasn't anything "wrong," but was talking about a hysterectomy. A friend at work told me about an herbal remedy that would help. I can't remember the name of it, but my husband went to get it at the health food store I was told had it. They no longer carried it, but he talked with the women that worked there (they told him he was a saint to be so concerned and willing to come in and discuss the problem with them) suggested Chinese Dong Quai Root. What he brought home was liquid and tastes horrible, but stopped the constant bleeding in two days! I read up on it, found that women in other countries had been using it for centuries to help with menopause (and PMS) symptoms, just knew I couldn't take the liquid on a daily basis for any length of time (it is one of those rooty tastes that just explodes in your mouth the more liquid you drink), so checked and found some in tablet form through Puritan Pride. I take one daily and have very mild menopause symptoms. Fortunately the PA that works for my doctor, who I usually see, is open to herbal remedies, so works with me to make sure that what I am taking doesn't have any bad side effects, etc. If you are having any breast pain, something else that plagued me about eight months ago, let me know. I'll go find the herbal remedy for that, too. I got to a point that my breasts were so tender it hurt me to wear a bra. I asked at the same health food store and was shown one that supports breast health. The pain subsided in several days and has since gone away. I've been out of the medicine for the past month or so and haven't made it back by the health food store to get more, but I've been fine. But again, first I checked with my PA to make sure nothing was wrong.

I have been fortunate going through menopause and my symptoms usually aren't severe, but have my moments, especially when you add stress, like with finals this past week.
