I Want To Know If You Agree With This Guy?

I was watching the news last night and heard that my state(CO) was passing bills when a rep. was dismissed due to what he said. He commented on a bill to not be passed that would allow foreign workers to come into the U.S. into CO and work on the farms here. The rep. said and I quote "We don't not need 5,000 more illiterate peasants in the state of Colorado". Once that was said a Colorado state rep. dismissed him from the floor.

What do you guys think? Do you agree with him?

I say that it should not be passed because the workers are already here.

I personally can see both sides. Americans have an extremely high unemployment rate and some say it's because immigrants will work for less money. The other side is what you say, they are already here. My problem isn't so much the legal ones, it's the illegal ones, they come in, get free healthcare (which taxpayers pay or hospitals/doctors eat the cost) and then get the jobs that legal immigrants or citizens should have. I live in texas, so that may influence my feeling on the matter, I also have a problem with people coming to the US and not bothering to learn our language and then get mad at us because we can't understand them. That sounds horrible, but it's the way I feel! I think he should have stated it differently, but it still is a country with a right to freedom of speech. Ok, I'm off mysoapbox for now. :P TNT

I just find it repulsive that he said this in public as a public official! He deserved the dismissal.

I think I have to agree with you, Kornholio. I tend to think amnesty may be the way to go - then make it much harder for more people to come in illegally.

Many of them are truely here to better themselves (and their families) and WORK, not take advantage. From my previous job, running the office for a landscape co., I have several Guatemalan friends. They are great people, and deserve a better life. They come here to support their families, who they do not get to see for several years at a time. I have great respect for these guys that I know, and they desperately want to be citizens...

However, it is a shame that there are SOOO many who are not like that and do come here to take advantage of our country. They are making it very hard on the ones who deserve and truely want to be here - not just to evade the law, get free healthcare, and abuse our government.

I wonder how many of those so-called illiterates will be voting for him come election time?

I think that he chose his words poorly. Because it almost sounded like he may have been saying that Colorado is full of "illiterate peasants", meaning residents as well. That could be why he was dismissed. Even if taken out of context, it was very rude of him to say.

I've been in TX for a while, and, I can understand this man's, as well as other's, annoyance at this. Some people say that migrant workers get the jobs that Americans wouldn't do. Ever watch Dirty Jobs? If people willingly work in those sorts of jobs, I'm sure that Americans would be willing to work on farms in the sun & heat. The problem is that Americans need more money to survive. Many migrant workers live with SEVERAL family members, and can afford to take a $5 an hour pay cut, since there are more people in the household that will chip in with cost of living. Why are they getting jobs with pay so low? Cuz people don't want to pay a lot of money for "hired help". It's a vicious cycle.

My husband's lost out on a few great jobs, because, as a professional welder, he knows his work is worth AT LEAST $25 an hour as a welder. But, the companies hire men that may not have the qualifications that he does, cuz they're willing to get paid $15 an hour.

It's very hard to be undercut by someone who will work for less and doesn't contribute back to our society. Illegal workers don't pay taxes and/or help support the poor already here. When I lived in Boston, I knew several young women who worked as nannies and just pocketed all the money. Of course they were cheaper. I'm sure it happens everywhere, but it is very frustrating.

I, too, thought the rep meant there were already too many illiterate people in CO. Very poor choice of words.

If you all go to www.cw2.com and look on the front page for, Colorado lawmaker silenced at microphone after comment. You can see the interview with him and what he said. I agree he made a poor choice of words but I think its because he wasn't as the saying goes looking before he leapt. I think the bill should be removed and a new one written stating that we find the workers here and make them legal.

while I don't agree with his tact. I do belive that this country needs to concern its self more with the well being of it's citizens, than to worry about those of forigners

I totaly agree, and that is the same way things are here in ky, you may as well forget getting a job working on a horse farm or welding gate here. unless you can live on 5.25 an hour

First of all I think that we're stuck with the illegals that we have, give them amensity so they come forward and "seal up" the borders making it extremely hard to get in without going through the proper channels.

Secondly, the language thing. I"m originally from PA and I managed a restaurant and several of my cooks didn't speak OR READ english. When I complained that they aren't listening to me because they can't understand me I got told to go learn spanish. I flipped. Yes, spanish is the fast growing language in the world. Fine. However, if 90% of us speak english at job, LEARN THE LANGUAGE! Oh and further more guess what? I looked this up, it is legal for me to let someone go for not speaking (or at leats making a solid attempt to learn) english in a restaurant. Guess what, it;s a health hazard for me to try and translate when somethings just do not translate well. Furtehr more I now live across form the border fro Quebec. IF YOU COME INTO MY STORE SPEAK MY LANGUAGE, or at least make an attempt. Most of these people (not all mind you some are very cool about it) are very very rude that I do not speak french (I try for when I go and visit the north). Then tehy flip because I cannot accept their money because it hasn't been exchanged. The only currency I have been require to accept is AMERICAN! I worked (thank god I quit or i would have gone postal) right across the street from the exchange place. Guess what? it's blockbuster policy NOT to accept otehr currencies. Ourown dollar is highly unstable and you want me to take yours? F that.

I'm very heated about this. I understand that learning a whole new language is hard, especially for just a shoppping trip. Fine. Key phrases are nice though and pretty easy. I just like to see an attempt. I found a translation program for the restraurant (which was terrible mind you) but I tried, why shouldn't they?

OKay sorry about my biased and angry rant. some days it doesn't take much to set me off.

What Costs More Per Year Than The Iraq War

WHAT COSTS MORE PER YEAR THAN THE IRAQ WAR!

I hope the following 14 reasons are forwarded over and over again until they are read so many times that the reader gets sick of reading them. I have included the URL's for verification of the following facts: This should be the major issue in this years Presidential election, not the Iraq war.

1. $11 Billion to $22 billion is spent on welfare to illegal aliens each year. http://tinyurl.com/zob77

2. $2.2 Billion dollars a year is spent on food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches for illegal aliens. http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalexec.html

3. $2.5 Billion dollars a year is spent on Medicaid for illegal aliens. http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalexec.html

4. $12 Billion dollars a year is spent on primary and secondary school education for children here illegally and they cannot speak a word of English! http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.0.html

5. $17 Billion dollars a year is spent for education for the American-born children of illegal aliens, known as anchor babies. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.01.html

6. $3 Million Dollars a DAY is spent to incarcerate illegal aliens. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.01.html

7. 30% percent of all Federal Prison inmates are illegal aliens. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.01.html

8. $90 Billion Dollars a year is spent on illegal aliens for Welfare and Social Services by the American taxpayers. http://premium.cnn.com/TRANSCIPTS/0610/29/ldt.01.html

9. $200 Billion Dollars a year in suppressed American wages are caused by the illegal aliens. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.01.html

10. The illegal aliens in the United States have a crime rate that's two-and-a-half times that of white non-illegal aliens. In particular, their children, are going to make a huge additional crime problem in the US. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0606/12/ldt.01.html

11. During the year of 2005 there were 4 to 10 MILLION illegal aliens that crossed our Southern Border also, as many as 19,500 illegal aliens from Terrorist Countries. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, meth, heroin and marijuana, crossed into the U. S from the Southern border. Homeland Security Report. http://tinyurl.com/t9sht

12. The National Policy Institute, 'estimated that the total cost of mass deportation would be between $206 and $230 billion or an average cost of between $41 and $46 billion annually over a five year period.' http://www.nationalpolicyinstitute.org/pdf/deportation.pdf

13. In 2006 illegal aliens sent home $45 BILLION in remittances back to their countries of origin. http://www.rense.com/general75/niht.htm

14. 'The Dark Side of Illegal Immigration: Nearly One Million Sex Crimes Committed by Illegal Immigrants In The United States'. http://www.drdsk.com/articleshtml

Total cost is a whooping... $338.3 BILLION A YEAR!!!

If this doesn't bother you then just delete the message, but on the other hand, if it does raise the hair on the back of your neck, then forward it.

Jojo: A real American boy. Born 04/22/2007 to myself and his mother(a legal alien resident)

The other night Jojo had a 105 degree fever, we went to the emergency room and came home around 2:30 am. I had to work thursday morning so I decided to skip the gym and sleep in until 7 am so I could call in and let them know I was running late because of the night before. No problem. I have the alarm clock volume on high and two cats that wi;ll make sure I get up. We let Jojo sleep between us that night. We felt it safer with his size since he so big.

At 7 am the click of the alarm clock can be fainly heard. Then the drum roll that sounds like it happening right next to us. I open my eyes to see Jojo going air borne with a twisting motion form where he lay from a prone position. With the look of startlement all over his face, eyes open wide looking at the alarm clock as the star bangled banner begins to play he does what no one expects. He slaps the right arm across his heart and keeps it there. Not just for a moment but the entire song he sits at attention and dosnt move it. Then as the song concludes he does the unthinkable. He keeps it there at martina McBride sings "God Bless America". And for the whole song. When it over I look at Jiji and shout " Now this is an american" and Jojo smiles and claps his hands.

Yea we need more babies like this born in this world, now here a future war pig canadiate for the marine corps like we was watching on the military channel last sunday. Wife didn't like it and I told her we can't stop him if he decides to join one day and we can't sign him up it all his decision. Mow this boy should run for president this year because he can sure beat the pants off the canadiates with patritism and he he not embarressed to show it. Unlike you Obama, Hiliary, and Mccain and your socialism ideologies ya'll been embracing( GOP and DNC better also take notice).

JOJO for president in 2008( I guess that what happens when he listions to Rush Limbaugh and other talk radio personalitlies)

There enough demand without the illegals having to siphon off the supply creating a reason to increase taxes causing the gas to go up. And while I'm running with Jojo on the ticket I gonna tell him to screw the enviroment and drill in alaska and along the coasts. When china and other third world countries start cleaning up then we will follow especially since they create the mess to begin with.

Glenn I'm with you on the JJ and the drilling tickets but this country is another major contributor to the environmental problems. We may be a bit further ahead of the problem but we are still correcting the problems that industry has brought into play! Iha for Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Poontang for Defense and Mikayla for Education in '08!

HELL NO!!

NOW DON'T FORGET HOW THEY love to drive drunk in their old crappy UNINSURED and UNREGISTERED cars blasting their salsa music as tho the entire neighborhood love it like they do.
