Stupid School Rules

Recommended Posts

So, after DD's doctor's appt. today, which was at 10:25, but that's the time we actually got out since we were so early, I brought her to school, got there at 10:40.

The teacher hadn't done her attendance yet, so the office did it. But, they considered DD an "Absent". She only missed about 2 hours, would be there for almost 4.5 more!! And they counted her absent???

And the secretary refused to change it, since I'd brough her in so late (10 is their cut-off time). Had I known that if she'd shown up for an hour or so in the a.m., I'd have dropped her off for an hour and a half to get counted in, then picked her up, and brought her back!! How stupid!! She missed just a couple hrs, was there for the majority of the day, and they acted like she was out. I wrote on the note that she was LATE coming in due to a dr.s appt, and the secretary wrote on my note that she'd been counted as absent. I was soooo pissed, but, I had to shut up, or else my mouth would've runnith over!

My bus was 2 hours late to school once because of a crazy snow storm (I went to school out of district) and they said we were absent and my mother had to come get us.... >.<

i always found it odd that my school would count you absent if you are 15 minutes late, yet NOT allow you to leave the campus. why not? according to them you're not even there to begin with

I just e-mailed the school's elementary principal. I think it's BS that she be counted absent, even though her teacher hadn't even DONE her attendance yet! So, we shall see. I know it's a small thing, but still. I don't need the truent officer knocking on my door (and yes, they do do that here!!).

My question is why didn't you set the appointment up for after school? This is the same sort of excuse some associates of mine use consistently when they're late for work. You know the schedule, you've had the schedule, why not adhere to the schedule? All problems solved.

Randy.

There is some drs out there that only see people that are sick in the morning and shots in the afternoon. (thats how mine is) Also my sons heart dr only sees kids in the morning. So that dosent always work to do it after school.

I don't think I would of left the school without them changing it. Or I would of just taken her home for the day, they want to consider her absent she might as well be.

This particular office is a "sub-office", where the doctor's main office is almost 2 hrs away. And this office is only open 4 days per month, scheduling is always full, and they closed at 3 pm. Otherwise I would've made it an after-school thing for sure.

Had I known the school was going to do this, I'd have brought her to school in the AM, picked her up, then brought her back!

I e-mailed them earlier, and the state board of education made the guidelines, to which there was NO reason why the secretary just couldn't explain to me, instead of being a super-bitch about it. I had e-mailed the principle, so it was she that told me about the guidelines. That wasn't so hard, huh?

So, live and learn, and now I know.

Well I think that the state of texas policy is ridiculous!!!! Sorry you had to go through that.

Thur when you have experience in this area feel free to pipe in more, as you don't have a clue about making peditrician or in this case specialist appointments (I pray you never have to deal with specialists for your child) then really you should not say make them after school. Its not that simple!! Since I know you will soon be going through the hells of making appoinments I LMAO!!!!

Well if it had of been me I doubt I would have remained as cool as you were Tyger. The guidelines for this school district need to be reworked IMO. The whole affair is ridiculous in my book. Now you know what retards are in charge of your childs education. Hard as it is I would get over it and move on.

Can't fight city hall.....

Tyger, why don't you get active in the district and try to make changes? You're smart, well written, and best of all you have common sense. I think you be great.
