Members tkla
I love my husband more than anything, but I can't sleep! It's ok if I fall asleep first, but if I try to get back to sleep after waking up with kids or something, or happen to go to bed later, it's aweful. I end up on the couch fairly frequently. I know he's certainly not intentionally snoring, but I need sleep! Help!!!

But it is also a symptom of sleep apnea, which is not something to mess around with. Please make sure he gets seen.

Tyger
"Loud snoring" is in the ear of the beholder...what may be loud for one, may not be loud for another. However, if it's keeping you awake, then something really needs to be done. While you're waiting for his doctor's appointment (which I hope has been made), you can try those Breathe Right strips, which may help. If he is overtired a lot, this can cause him to snore, or if he's sick, or congested due to allergies. Have him roll over on his side, or stomach, and see if that helps too.Other than that, if it's loud, and problematic, definitely consult with a doctor. Members Shariana
Suggesting he go to a ears, nose, and throat clinic can really help. They can cauterize the soft pallette of the mouth and some points in the nasal passages to reduce snoring.

My mother in law stayed with us for a week last month, and from our daughter's room...with both doors closed, she could hear him and asked me how I could sleep with him. lol I'm going to get the strips tonight, he has a dr. appt next week, so I hope something helps...I might get some ear plugs too. Members nic
My hubby snores something awful! Ive done the all of it. Kicking, pinching, earplugs, he did the sleep apnea tests at the hospital and was told to lose 20 lbs (he did b/c of dental issues, didnt help). I use sleep cds that are nature sounds like ocean, waterfall, rain and thunder. I still here him snore sometimes, but not as bad as without it. One thing that I notice with him is that he really doesnt snore when he doesnt drink. But thats another issue. I think that its a good idea to get the sleep test thing. Members kisskat
My husband has always snored but it seems as he got older it got worse. I am sort of used to it but I know when I have been especially on edge I have to sleep somewhere else because he drives me nuts. He has done the sleep test and even tried the chloroseptic thing but none worked so we just live with it
Members jesso
Seems like this is such a common topic amoung married couples. I have quite a few friends that one spouse constantly complains about the others loud sleeping mouth noise Has anyone tried the pillow that Brookstone has? http://www.brookstone.com/store/product.asp?pid=572966Oh and Thunderchild, I looked at that link and almost died laughing. Have you tried it? Seems like duct taping your jaw might do the same thing

Members ManofHerdreams
I shake the bed.... I used to snore really loud according to those who ever tried to sleep around me. The doc gave me Nasacort AQ nasal spray for allergies and now at least I'm tolerable or so says my wife.

Members ToyQueen
Have fun with it. Alternately pinch the nostrils to your favorite tunes. Lots of fun...besides, it's not like your gonna lose sleep over it. If that doesn't work...THUMP HIM IN THE NUTSTango, I've been waiting for you to show up and say just that!!!!! Members whitefang2002
my ex was the same way. he did use the nasal strips for me...and those worked as long as they stayed on. (they usually didn't stay on all night). Funny story...one morning he crawled out of bed...naked of course...and he had the strip hanging off his butt cheek!!! LOL! It was funny. Anyways...we decided that since they didn't stay on all night to just forget about them. I tried the ear plugs...but i couldn't sleep with them in. Just wasn't comfortable for me. I usually sleep on my side...so i ended up just putting a small pillow over the ear that was facing the ceiling when on my side. That worked for me!!! Also him laying on his side was the position he least snorred in. But yeah I agree with the others for him to see a doctor. my ex wouldn't go see one. figures!Hope you have some luck on this! Let us know how the appt goes.
Members ohshelly
I have noticed when my guy is overtired, he snores, too.He likes to tease me and tell me that I snore like a freight train.I give him a wide eyed look and say "I've slept with LOTSA guys, and nobody has ever told me that!"Then he slaps me on the butt and tells me I'm bad! (yeah, baby, a little harder, Yep, I'm bad!!)Love the nasal strip on the butt cheek, whitefang! Does it keep them from farting, too?
Members Grumpy Bear
I love my husband more than anything, but I can't sleep! It's ok if I fall asleep first, but if I try to get back to sleep after waking up with kids or something, or happen to go to bed later, it's aweful. I end up on the couch fairly frequently. I know he's certainly not intentionally snoring, but I need sleep! Help!!!I have sleep apnea - was diagnosed 15 years ago. I had a laser surgery on my throat to reduce the snoring, but I still need to sleep with a CPAP (Constant Positive Air Pressure) meachine and it takes a bit of getting used to and definitely puts a crimp in the spontanaiety. When I don't use it, I feel like I've been awake for a couple days come morning. Due to work emergencies I have pulled a couple stretches where I was awake for ~48 hrs so I can definitely relate the feelings. One of the best things someone with sleep apnea can do is lose weight.... I could stand to lose 50 pounds and I did this a few years back and felt really good. Unfortunately I found them again and I'm back up to 280#.... Does he fall asleep easily during the day? During conversations? Watching TV? Sitting at the dinner table? DRIVING!?!?!? At night, does he stop breathing and then "gasp for air" and start snoring again? There are a lot of other symptoms besides the fatigue and snoring... Sleep Apnea is a serious issue, it can contribute to heart attack & stroke, the fatigue and suddenly faling asleep can lead to accidents... The only way to really know is to undergo a sleep study. You will usually go to a sleep lab\clinic over two consecutive nights and get wired up to monitor your physical state ... IRRC - sleep stages, (apnea usually will prevent rem sleep), oxygen intake\general oxygen level, respiration - in particular if and the frequency that you stop breathing... heart rate, blood pressure, etc.... for the first night. On the second night they might monitor again to verify the results and then have you come back in for another visit where they'll set you up with a CPAP and adjust the setting while you sleep while monitoring you to determine if it helps. Oh, they also video tape you and have somone sit there and monitor you for movement - tossing and turning, etc....I would suggest getting him checked if for no other reason than to rule it out... You will most likely need to seei an ear, nose, and throat specialist and they may rule it out after the first exam. but definitely get checked! Members tkla
I will definitely have him talk to the doctor about sleep apnea...at this point I've gotten a humidifier, and the nasal strips and gotten it down to tolerable. which translates into, I don't have to sleep on the couch anymore. He doesn't seem tired during the day, and doesn't fall asleep during normal activities...just snores a lot...We both know that he needs to lose a significant amount of weight...but as of yet, he's not real motivated to accomplish it. :-( I'll keep you updated on how it goes...and thanks for all the info about sleep apnea!
